BioWatt has been appointed to provide front end engineering design (FEED) work for a pre-construction biogas project with planning permission, due to start construction later this year.

The Project will involve the construction of a 46,000 tonnes per annum anaerobic digestion plant, access, clamps, biogas upgrading, grid entry, gas pipeline, power connection, CHP, lagoons, extensive highways improvements and associated works. BioWatt originally worked with the landowner to find a suitable investor and has now been retained by the future owner to provide FEED services required to bring the project to Financial Investment Decision (FID). Having brought three potential investors that matched the landowners desired for long term, blue chip ownership, a large energy asset infrastructure company was selected and secured the option to take on the project.

Consultancy services BioWatt has provided to the project include (1) managing the procurement of various construction packages; (2) advising on forms, terms and commerciality of contracts; (3) procuring feedstock and digestate management services; (4) advising on and submitting Section 73 variations & discharging planning conditions; (5) developing design packs and works information for tender; (6) bid evaluation and contractor selection; (7) Section 278 technical works, submissions and S278 Agreement negotiation; (8) contract negotiation; (9) programming and financial/ technical modelling; (10) working with DNOs to provide power connection solutions; (11) managing the gas connection process through to connection agreement; and general project management services.

” Clearly we don’t have all these services in-house but then we do know where to get the best practical and cost-effective expertise to deliver excellent design, engineering and specialist preconstruction services to enable potential project owners to make confident investment decisions. Over 10 years in biogas and organics treatment and I wouldn’t say we’ve seen it all – but we have seen a lot – and that experience is there for our clients to make best use of.”
