BioWatt is pleased to announce its pivotal role in securing and advancing a new Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) to grid facility in North Northamptonshire. The project, a collaboration between a local landowner and Vida Bioenergy, marks a significant step forward in the UK’s sustainable energy transition.
BioWatt acted as advisor to the landowner, guiding the selection of Vida Bioenergy as the preferred financial and operational partner for the project. Following this, BioWatt provided comprehensive development support to bring the facility to financial close, including:
- Planning & Permitting: Managing Section 73 amendments to the planning permission and securing a Certificate of Lawfulness of Proposed Use or Development (CLOPUD).
- Engineering & Design: Conducting front-end engineering, optimising the plant design, and overseeing soil balance calculations and highway agreements (Section 278).
- Procurement & Contracting: Leading the tendering process for civil works, technology, gas upgrading and grid connection, as well as negotiating contracts with preferred bidders.
- Stakeholder Management: Coordinating between the landowner, investor, utilities, and statutory authorities to ensure smooth project progression.
- Feedstock & Digestate Agreements: Securing in-principle agreements for local feedstock supply and digestate offtake within a 12-mile radius, fulfilling planning conditions while supporting the circular economy.
“This project demonstrates the value of expert development management in delivering complex biogas infrastructure,” said Georgi Zlatev, CTO at BioWatt. “By aligning the interests of landowners, investors, and regulators, we’re accelerating the UK’s capacity to produce homegrown, low-carbon energy in the hard to de-carbonise gas and agricultural sectors.“
Georgi ZLATEV, Head of Construction and Development @BioWatt.
The North Northamptonshire facility will convert agricultural wastes into renewable natural gas (“biomethane”), feeding it into the national grid to decarbonise heating and transport. It underscores the growing demand for bioenergy solutions that reduce reliance on fossil fuels while supporting rural/ agricultural economies.
Expanding the UK’s Biogas Pipeline
BioWatt has a long term framework with Vida and other “blue-chip” investors; and is currently advancing three additional UK projects through development and financing, reinforcing its position as a trusted partner for AD project development. The company offers end-to-end services—from feasibility studies and permitting to construction management and commercial structuring— through to operations and maintain-for landowners, investors, and developers seeking to build new biogas capacity.
